Thank you for visiting our website, which I hope you will find to be a valuable and comprehensive source of information on Airport International Group (AIG) and Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA). We strive to keep you – our passengers and stakeholders – constantly up to date on our latest developments.
An airport is more than a mere transit point for passengers; it is a traveler’s first experience of a country and speaks volumes of its people, forming lasting impressions that have the power to shape perceptions long after they have moved on to other destinations. Armed with this understanding, Airport International Group set out in 2007 – in partnership with the Government of Jordan – to rehabilitate, manage, operate and promote the Kingdom’s prime gateway, QAIA, in a manner that is befitting of this exceptional country, its warm people and unique offerings.
Drawing on extensive regional and international expertise in airport operation and construction, Airport International Group invested nearly USD 1 billion in the rehabilitation of QAIA’s two original terminals, replacing them with a new, state-of-the-art terminal that has bolstered Jordan’s ability to accommodate rising passenger numbers and support its thriving tourism industry. In March 2013, we inaugurated the Kingdom’s landmark airport under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, marking a new era in Jordan’s aviation industry and economic advancement.
Designed by award-winning and globally-acclaimed Foster + Partners, the terminal melds architectural ingenuity with Bedouin-inspired aesthetics to create a proud national landmark that reflects Jordan’s advanced modern capabilities and rich cultural heritage. Its intuitive layout was carefully devised in a manner that optimizes passenger flow to limit hassle and ensure the convenience of travelers and visitors alike.
In September 2016, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, we celebrated yet another national accomplishment with the inauguration of the second phase of QAIA’s New Terminal Project. Valued at USD 214 million, the expansion added 43,513 square meters to the Airport’s total area, and nearly doubled the total number of gates in operation at QAIA, increasing from 13 to 25 active gates.
The spacious terminal now boasts an annual capacity of up to 12 million passengers, marking a tangible improvement in comparison to QAIA’s previous capacity of seven million passengers per year, with future plans to increase the annual capacity even further to 16 million passengers. In 2015, QAIA marked yet another proud milestone year by welcoming 7,095,685 travelers from across the world, offering them a signature traveler experience that is unique to QAIA with the introduction of a broad range of enhanced features, from efficiency and security-maximizing automation systems to passenger-centric facilities.
QAIA’s journey throughout the past few years has been nothing short of inspiring. Back in 2012, the old terminal stood at 186th place in Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Survey – the world’s leading benchmark program for airport passenger satisfaction and service levels. Since then, QAIA has steadily risen through the ranks to come in at 41st place from amongst approximately 300 airports worldwide. QAIA further bolstered its position as Jordan’s prime gateway to the world when it received, for two consecutive years, first place in the category of ‘Best Airport by Region: Middle East’ based on its performance in the 2014 and 2015 ACI ASQ Surveys, in addition to topping the ‘Best Improvement by Region: Middle East’ category based on its 2014 performance.
Carrying on the QAIA legacy, the new terminal will continue to build on the airport’s enduring track record of success. Through our ongoing development programs and by forging strong global connections for Jordan, we aim to set QAIA as an ideal choice for leisure and business travelers in the region. In order to further improve the QAIA experience, we invite you to share with us your feedback.
